Xiaomi SU7 Is Rapidly Losing Value on the Used Market in China: Ultra Loses Up to 36% After 20,000 km

A paradoxical picture has emerged in the Chinese market: Xiaomi electric cars, which until recently were considered a benchmark of liquidity, have begun to noticeably sag in price already in the first months of ownership. And this is most evident on the most expensive and powerful versions, where losses are expressed not only in percentages, but also in very large sums.

The most painful blow is to the Ultra version

The three-motor Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, which when new was valued at 530 thousand yuan (about 5.99 million rubles), loses value especially quickly on the used market. Even cars with minimal mileage effectively become cheaper almost immediately by an impressive amount, and with a small mileage the drop continues at an accelerated pace:

  • cars with almost zero mileage can lose up to 100 thousand yuan (1.13 million rubles), which corresponds to 18.8%;
  • after about 10 thousand km, losses reach 150 thousand yuan (1.7 million rubles) — about 28.3%;
  • a recorded example: an SU7 Ultra with 19.2 thousand km is being sold for 339.8 thousand yuan (3.84 million rubles), which is 190.2 thousand yuan (2.15 million rubles) below the original price, i.e., minus 35.8%.

The regular SU7 is also losing value, and this is already systemic

The Xiaomi SU7 sedan in “civilian” trims has also ceased to be that very asset that can be easily resold with almost no losses. According to data collected by specialized observers, the decline in value has become noticeable even over a short ownership period:

  • over 6 months and about 10 thousand km of mileage, the average loss is around 50 thousand yuan (565 thousand rubles);
  • in percentage terms, this is 16.6–23.1% — depending on the configuration;
  • after the 20 thousand km mark, depreciation reaches about 80 thousand yuan (905 thousand rubles), which corresponds to 26.7–37%.

Even “almost straight from the showroom” — already cheaper

It is noted separately that cars with symbolic mileage (less than 100 km) on resale, on average, go for about 20 thousand yuan (226 thousand rubles) less than new ones. At the same time, classifieds feature a base SU7 with 60 thousand km of mileage priced at 153 thousand yuan (1.72 million rubles).

The YU7 crossover is holding up better than the rest

Against the backdrop of the sedans, the most resilient turned out to be the Xiaomi YU7, which entered the market in the summer of last year. Currently, cars with minimal mileage usually cost about 10 thousand yuan (113 thousand rubles) below the new-car list price. Interestingly, earlier the situation was the opposite: such crossovers could be listed for 20 thousand yuan (226 thousand rubles) more.

What exactly “dropped” the prices: dealers’ and experts’ opinions

Mydrivers’ interlocutors among sellers and specialists cite several reasons at once that overlapped and ultimately cooled the market:

  • the announcement of an upgraded version of the sedan: improvements have been declared, including dual-chamber air suspension, enhanced safety, and an updated powertrain;
  • increased output and shorter waits for new cars: YU7 production was moved to a separate building, SU7 lines were optimized, and the queue shrank from about 12 months to a few weeks;
  • reputational stories related to brakes and safety issues that scared off part of the audience;
  • a decline in the brand’s “novelty effect” and the arrival of fresh competitors, making interest more subdued;
  • the behavior of resellers: many used-car sellers are trying to get rid of mileage-bearing Xiaomis faster, fearing further depreciation, thereby amplifying the price drop.

The overall market picture

In the final analysis, the situation looks logical: the supply of Xiaomi cars on the used market has become broader, and the motivation to overpay for an “almost new” example has weakened. Against this backdrop, prices have gone down, and the former reputation of ultra-liquid models has noticeably wavered (photo: Xiaomi).
