The premium compact brand Firefly, which is part of Nio Inc, continues to expand its presence in Europe. This time, the company has begun deliveries to Austria, which it announced on the Chinese social network Weibo without disclosing additional details.

Recall that the first shipments for European customers started on August 15, and at that time Norway and the Netherlands were among the first markets. From the outset, Firefly outlined plans to expand its geographic reach: in addition to these countries, the list included Belgium, Denmark, Austria, Hungary, Portugal, and Greece. At the beginning of this month, the brand confirmed progress along this route by announcing the start of deliveries to Belgium, Denmark, and Greece all at once, and now Austria has been added to them as well.
The Firefly brand itself was officially unveiled at the Nio Day 2024 event, held on December 21, 2024. It is positioned as a competitor to Mini and Smart. The first model, bearing the same name, debuted in China on April 19, and deliveries in the home market began as early as April 29. On July 26, the company marked the production of its 10,000th unit.
On November 7, Firefly reported shipping a large batch of vehicles to Europe and for the first time indicated that further expansion would be oriented toward North America. At the same time, on November 18, brand president Daniel Jin told Reuters in an interview that in 2026 Firefly plans to enter the UK and Thai markets, stepping up its study of right-hand-drive countries where there are no punitive duties on Chinese electric vehicles (source: cnevpost.com).
According to CnEVPost, in November Firefly set a record by delivering 6,088 cars, which is 2.98% more than the October result. Overall, Nio Inc, including Nio, Onvo, and Firefly, shipped 36,275 vehicles in November, posting its second-best month after 40,397 units in October. In parallel, the brand is updating its software: the day before, Aster 1.3.0 was launched in China, expanding the functions of the driving assistant, “smart” cabin, and voice assistant. Going forward, Firefly intends to accelerate its global expansion by adding another 17 countries in Europe, the Americas, and Southeast Asia.
