BYD Produced 1.5 Billion NEVs and Launched Production of the Anniversary Denza N8L in China

Chinese automaker BYD has reported a new record: cumulative production of NEV-segment vehicles has reached 1.5 million units. The symbolic “anniversary” vehicle was showcased at a production-capacity launch ceremony in Jinan (Shandong Province), where the company emphasized that the pace of ramping up volumes remains extremely high.

Notably, just two months ago BYD was already celebrating the previous milestone. At that time, it was reported that 1.4 million NEVs had been produced at the company’s plant in Brazil. The manufacturer attributes the short interval between the two major milestones to the fact that its global production system has already been established, while demand for “green” models continues to grow.

The vehicle that marked the 1.5-millionth unit was the premium full-size DENZA N8L SUV. The manufacturer highlights its level of safety and comfort. At the same time, the N8L model posted another figure: it became the 15,000th vehicle in total production volume.

In terms of sales in 2025, BYD is also demonstrating stability. From January through November, 4,182,000 vehicles were sold worldwide, which is 11.3% more than a year earlier. Exports are noted separately: 917,000 vehicles were sold abroad, and this result has already exceeded the full-year figure for 2024. BYD’s NEV products are now present on six continents and in 119 countries and regions.

BYD emphasizes that it continues to follow the principle of “technology as the foundation, innovation as the engine,” and therefore invests heavily in development. In the first three quarters of 2025, R&D investment amounted to 4,375,000 million yuan, which is 31% higher than last year’s level, and cumulative investment exceeded 2,200 billion yuan. The company explains its leadership by strong positions in battery technologies, software, and manufacturing processes.

At the same time, the international expansion of the luxury brand DENZA is accelerating, as it advances in Asia, Europe, and Latin America. In the first half of 2025, the DENZA D9 minivan became the sales leader among luxury models in key markets, including Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia. The company believes that participation in global auto shows helps accelerate the rollout of electrification in the premium segment.

Recall that BYD began operations in 1994 as a battery manufacturer. Today, the group brings together automotive, rail transport, new energy, and electronics businesses, offering zero-emissions solutions on six continents, in more than 110 countries and regions, and in over 400 cities (source: response.jp).
