BYD Prepares the Tang 9 and Han 9 Flagships: 800-Volt Platform, LiDAR, and a Bet on “Broad” Luxury

On January 12, BYD unveiled plans for two new flagships: the full-size Tang 9 SUV and the Han 9 sedan, which are intended to help the brand gain a foothold in the 200,000–300,000 yuan price range (about $28,700–$43,000) and move closer to the entry level of “mass” luxury. The public debut of these new models is scheduled for the first half of this year, but exact sales launch dates have not yet been announced.

Interestingly, the company has simultaneously launched a collection of name options for both models, meaning the final designations may still change. On the technical side, it is stated that both the Tang 9 and the Han 9 will be offered in two versions: a fully electric BEV and a plug-in hybrid PHEV. In both cases, a high-voltage 800-volt architecture is предусмотрена, Autohome reports.

BYD emphasizes that the new flagships will be larger and will receive the latest set of the brand’s proprietary technologies. The teasers show a lidar on the roof, which directly hints at advanced driver-assistance systems. The Tang 9, as уточняется, is the production evolution of the Dynasty-D concept shown at the Shanghai Auto Show in 2025, and its length will exceed 5.2 meters. The Han 9 will also be imposing: more than 5.1 meters, and the wheelbase is expected to reach 3.1 meters. By November 2025, cumulative sales of the Han and Tang families exceeded 1.93 million vehicles (source: carnewschina.com).
